WAGON BOX FIGHT – This was one of the few times that Red Cloud made a mistake in battle. The mistake was that his opponents had breech-loading Springfield rifles.
HARRY TRACY – Harry was called “mad dog.” And here is one time that a nickname fit the personality.
FLORENCE STAGE ROBBERY I & II – There were thousands of stage robberies in the Old West, but for just plain stupidly, there was none that matched the outlaws in this robbery.
JOAQUIN MURIETA I & II – The story of California’s most famous outlaw is much like many other Old West outlaw stories, it’s hard to separate the fact from fiction.
TOM HODGES – Dr. Hodges decided to come to California to work the gold fields. It didn’t work out, so he became outlaw Tom Bell.
JOHN MORCO – John did a lot of drinking. And it seems that when he drank, he angered people, which often resulted in gun play.
WILLIAM AVERILL COMSTOCK – Comstock was the prototypical military scout. He was able to understand and get along with Indians, but he had a secret past.
JAYBIRD-WOODPECKER WAR – Here is a Texas political war where it was difficult to determine who were the Republicans and the Democrats, because they kept impersonating the other party.
JAMES BIRCH – Everyone who came to the gold fields didn’t become wealthy panning gold. As with James Birch, some became wealthy taking care of the needs of those who panned gold.
BRUL SIOUX INCIDENT – This incident involving a dieing ox, escalated way beyond proportion, resulting in the deaths of many people.
WIILLIAM WHITNEY BRAZELTON – Outlaw Brazleton didn’t become famous until after his death, and in a very strange way.
NEWTON, KANSAS MASSACRE – An Old West saying says that a man should kill his own snakes. In Newton, Kansas a number of snakes were killed.
GAMBLER JIM BOWIE – Jim Bowie steps in to help a young man who was cheated out of money by riverboat gamblers. The interesting part of the story is how Jim did it.
JOHN ARMSTRONG – Texas Ranger Armstrong was known as a bulldog because of his tenaciousness. John Wesley Harden experienced the bulldog even though Harden was in Florida.
CHARLES BRYANT – Bryant wished to be killed in one heck of a minute of action. And, he got his wish.
BILL DOOLAN SHOT – Marshall Heck Thomas shot outlaw Doolan after he was already dead. The reason is interesting.
CIBECUE MASSACRE – With the Apache on reservations, it seemed that the wars were over, that is, until the Prophet started promoting his dance.
