The December line-up:

ELFEGO BACA – Although you have probably never heard of him, Elfego had more grit than the Old West’s most famous heroes.

JOHN ABERNATHY – Talk about guts…John would catch wolves live by jamming his hand in their mouths. But, that’s the least of his accomplishments.

MONROE DOCTRINE – Two speeches delivered 22 years apart, to the day, developed the policy of “manifest Destiny.”

GRANGE ORGANIZED – Feeling they were charged too much, farmers got together and formed one of the most powerful organizations of the 1800’s.

NELSON STORY – The growth of the west was the result of risks taken by men of vision. And Nelson Story is a great illustration of one such man.

BEN THOMPSON – Even though Austin, Texas knew they were hiring a less than stellar man as town marshal, Ben was just more than they could handle.

WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE – At the beginning of 1869 women could not vote nor hold political office. But that was changed by the least likely state…Wyoming.

CHIEF COLOROW – Colorow successfully used intimidation and psychological warfare to keep whites out of the central Rocky Mountains.

JOHNNIE BRUGHUIER – Johnnie’s story is a perfect example of how a seemingly devastating event can open opportunities beyond one’s imagination.

SITTING BULL – A man of special abilities as a leader and organizer, he started out with the name, Slow.

TOM O’FOLLIARD – Although Tom wasn’t well known, he’s presently buried next to Billy the Kid, because he was Billy’s best friend.

HOW IT FEELS TO BE SCALPED – Here are the actual words of a man who survived scalping. The conclusion will amuse you.

WILLARD CHRISTIANSON – With no police academies, Old West lawmen normally received “hands on” training…That means they were an outlaw before becoming a lawman. At least, that’s the story of this man.

RUFUS SOMERBY – You’ve heard of men who have gotten in trouble by deserting the military. Rufus got into trouble by joining more than one branch at the same time.

VIRGIL EARP SHOP – The last half of 1881 was a tough time for the Earps. It was climaxed by the shooting of Virgil.

HELENA, TEXAS – The story of how a single bullet had the ability to kill a whole town.

DEATH VALLEY CHRISTMAS – Caught in the middle of Death Valley, the Brier family found their Christmas celebration was one they probably never forgot.

JOHN REYNOLDS HUGHES – Christmas is known as the beginning of life. For Hughes it was the end of two lives.

WOUNDED KNEE – Without a doubt one of the worst atrocities in the Plains Indian Wars, it was one that neither side really wanted.

SAM HOUSTON – Although Houston was the very spirit of Texas’ independence, he died a rejected man. (See Picture)

MARION HEDGEPETH – Marion learned his trade of outlawry in the West, but practiced it in the East.
